Hardwood Floor

The demand for hardwood flooring has raised greatly that manufacturers took advantage in customizing options for their products at wholesale price. They even feature appealing selections of hardwood color palette expansion that includes tertiary, secondary and neutral colors, hand carved and bordered accents.

Having a wood floor in your is an investment you can count on. It adds value and selling price to a house, although selling your home would be a last option a homeowner would do. It is a tough choice to beat. Top destination points today are wood floor showrooms.

Two varieties of hardwood floors:

Solid Harwood Flooring

This type of wood flooring is most excellent for installations and it is the most common choice for people. This is made from a single piece of wood, cut, air dried and cured at the processing area of a factory. They are mostly unfinished because many consumers want to apply varieties of color they would like for their floor.

Although they are not good to use below ground level like basements and wet areas like the kitchen or bathroom, if they are waterproof finished properly, they can be installed in these wet areas.

With proper sanding and refinishing, these woods look great and amazing as it age! Its longevity you always can count. It has a timeless beauty, elegance and value one can be proud of.

There are also disadvantages in this kind of wood you should consider. If installed in an area with too much heat all the year round, the tendency is that it might warp, crack, cup or shrink. But in a very humid or wet environment, it has also a tendency to swell, bulge and expand.

Engineered hardwood flooring

This type of wood comprised of multiple layers of thin pieces of wood pressed and bonded together perpendicular to each other. Mostly, they are three to seven layers of these thin sheets of wood. The top layer is veneered and the back is a softer wood backing. They could be installed into the sub-floor directly by gluing. It can also be nailed or stapled down even unto a concrete sub-floor. This type of wood is highly resistant to warping as each sheet is glued perpendicularly to each other.

While engineered wood has vertically layered sheets glued and pressed together, another kind of engineered wood called laminate wood with each sheet is glued and pressed parallel to each other.

These two types of hardwood flooring can be installed in a more humid environment.

With a standard lifespan beyond 100 years and huge insulation character, this wood flooring creates a great functional preference as well.
